가을 없이 그냥 겨울이 오나봅니다. 이상하게 겨울하면 떠오르는 그룹이 있습니다. Stratovarius! 저에겐, 건조하고 삭막하면서도 암울한 사운드지만 낭만적이고 심금을 울리는 그들의 음악이 겨울과 함께 오버랩됩니다. 그리고, 첫눈까지 오면서 갑자기 영하로 내려가 유달리 가을을 느낄 수 없게 만든 오늘, 저는 Stratovarius의 리드였고 기타리스트였던 Timo Tolkki의 두번째 솔로앨범인 [Hymn To Life](2002년)를 집어들었습니다. 국내에서 구할 수 없어서, 아는 음악 모임 오빠에게 예전에 부탁해서 다운받은 곡이라 음질은 좋지 않습니다. 그래도...너무 듣고 싶었습니다. ^^;; 혹시 시디로 갖고 계신 분 있음..구워주세여~~~~~^^ Timo Tolkki의 음악은 자기파괴적이면서도 폭발적이고 암울하고 때로는 한없이 슬픕니다. 2004년 만성 우울증과 자살 충동에 의해 정신병원에 입원도 했었던 Timo Tolkki. 그런 그의 경력이 고정관념화되어 버렸는지 저에겐 그의 음악이 그렇게 느껴집니다. 우선, 2번째 곡인 Key To The Universe는 Helloween의 보컬이었던 Michael Kiske의 달콤한 보컬과 기타 간주가 아름다운 곡입니다. 그리고 4번째 곡 Divine은 깔끔하면서도 박력있는 사운드를 들려주고 있으며, 상당히 멋진 곡입니다. 또, 가슴찡한 락발라드 곡인 5번째곡 Little Boy I Miss You도 아름다워서 자꾸 자꾸 듣고 싶어지는 곡입니다. 다크메탈, 데스메탈의 분위기로 8번곡과 9번곡은 이어지고, 포크분위기가 나는 It's Xmas Morning과 다분히 아트적이면서도 들으면 암울해지는 곡, 그러면서도 중독성이 있는 곡 Hymn To Life로 앨범은 맺습니다. 이 중에서 가사도 이쁘고 이런 날씨에 편하게 들으면 좋을 곡은 7번곡인 Are You The One?입니다. Within Temptation의 보컬 Sharon Den Adel이 함께 한 곡입니다.
